Why
Career Colleges are a Good Career Choice
by Rich Schmidt, Member
Oregon Board of Cosmetology
Every spring, many high school graduates
finalize their future plans for work, military service, or
further education. Far too often students are expected by
their peers, teachers, counselors and parents to go on to
higher education. This decision is too often made without
any exploration of other career options.
In the Northwest, approximately half
of the high school graduates enroll in a college or university
each year. Unfortunately, less than half of these students,
who start college ever finish with a four-year degree. This
means that only about 25% of Oregon's high school graduates
actually obtain a degree from a college or university.
So, what about the remaining 75% of
the high school graduates who do not get college degrees?
Most find themselves working dead end, low paying jobs with
no serious career advancement ever possible.
Cosmetology colleges offer great opportunities
for those desiring career training at a low cost and a limited
training period. Currently, well-trained beauticians, facial
and nail technicians, and barbers are in high demand in almost
every state in the nation.
Successful cosmetology graduates of
a school with a well-rounded curriculum, will always find
a entry-level position in the beauty industry. Those who stay
in the industry for five years or more can expect a salary
range that compares well with other professions.
There are a number of fine cosmetology
colleges in this state that offer a prospective student the
opportunity to gain life long skills in a rewarding career.
